ITALY - OFF THE BEATEN PATH

So you've been to all of the iconic Italian Monuments - been serenaded in a gondola in Venice - eaten a gelato while throwing a penny (over your right shoulder no less and back to the fountain) into the Trevi Fountain ...

You STILL love Italy, so what's next?!

I get it - Italy's a country you'll want to return to - over and over and over again - so much to see, so little time (and sometimes money).

The country's filled with warm, hospitable people.  Exquisite wine and food.  Spectacular scenery.  And it's desired and STILL at the top of the list for the destination most people worldwide, want to travel to.

Why not try these 5 regions - somewhat off the beaten path - and indulge in the country's cultural richness, natural beauty, delicious cuisine, and warmth (without fighting the crowds).

Aren't we all still a bit "crowd shy" after 2+ years of lockdown (okay, we won't use the C word again).

THE DOLOMITES

Filled with breathtaking and unforgettable experiences for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to escape into the beauty of the mountains - The Dolomites are for you.

They offer stunning mountain landscapes - whether summer or winter - adventure activities abound.

It's also a culinary destination, believe it or not.

EMILIA ROMAGNA

This northern Italy region is known for its delightful blend of medieval cities, rich gastronomy and seaside resorts.

It’s known as the gastronomic heart of Italy.  Some of it’s culinary specialties have led to Italy’s worldwide fame: Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, tortellini pasta, and lasagna Bolognese to name a few (is your mouth watering yet?  I know mine is 😊 )

It’s also home to some of the most prestigious automobile brands in the world.

The Motor Valley is the birthplace of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and others.

Imagine a vacation where you experience the countryside, visit a parmesan dairy farm, a parma ham factory and watch cars being built by hand at the Lamborghini factory.

Have you died and gone to heaven yet?!

ITALIAN RIVIERA – SAN REMO

Sanremo may be Italy’s best kept secret.  Located in the Italian Riviera, it’s a lovely coastal city situated in the Liguria region in the northwest part of the country.

From seaside to pedestrian streets, the medieval old town is perched on a hilltop.

The local market is filled with seafood, fresh produce, fabulous leather goods and many other local products.

But there’s an added bonus – it’s a short drive from the French Riviera, making this the ideal base to explore both the Italian and French Rivieras.

PIEMONTE

Nestled at the base of the Alps in the northwest corner of Italy, Piemonte is blessed with stunning natural beauty.

One of Italy’s most prestigious wine regions, Barolo and Barbaresco wines are produced here.

White truffles are a gastronomic highlight of this area. You can hunt for then with a private guide and his dogs.

Then to the kitchen, to enjoy a lovely cooking class using your fresh truffles.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Piemonte.  From hiking to skiing in the Alps, to cycling through vineyards and nature reserves.

Piemonte offers an authentic Italian experience filled with natural beauty, culinary delights, and outdoor adventures.

PUGLIA

In the southern part of Italy, Puglia’s known as “the boot”.

With a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, culinary delights and warm hospitality, it’s coastline boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.

The beautiful and historic towns and cities of the region offer a glimpse into Puglia’s rich history.

Puglia is well known for its olive trees – the region supplying around 40% of the olive oil production in Italy.

A stay in the countryside combined with experiencing the coastline and some of the baroque cities, makes it the perfect vacation.
