Now here's my WHY:
Most Canadians love our fall at home. September and October are busy months with back to school for kids/grandkids. We're getting back to our routines after a summer of visitors and visiting. October is Thanksgiving and the time to shut down the yard/garden or the cottage.
It's one of the warmest and colourful areas in Europe, especially that time of year. Think of yellow and red leaves against a bright blue sky.
The temps at this time can be anywhere from mid-teens to low 20's. It's perfect for sightseeing, cruising, and relaxing. Imagine a bike ride, stroll or wine tasting.
Return to the ship for a hot chocolate (with perhaps a French liqueur), mulled wine and warm friendships welcoming you in the lounge, while the sun goes down and the lights start to twinkle into the evening.
Less crowds. Who's heard all about (or experienced) how crazy Europe's been this past year. This river, doesn't have the high/low water issues some of the others have had.
It's an early gift to yourself. Have you not earned it after the last few years?! You'll be home for the Holidays. It's that time of year when we're transitioning from one season to another - bit messy, dreary and dark. It's not quite ski, snowshoe or winter time.
